Hi friends! Just wanted to send out a quick FYI. Tuesday we will be having our first math test. I feel that most of the kiddos are very prepared for this test, but in case you're worried/ feel they need extra practice, I put up some extra practice worksheets on the printable resource page. After this math unit we will be heading into adding and subtracting with regrouping. Let me know if you want to get ahead/ need some other resources. Thanks! |

We are up and running officially with our brand-new (hopefully for the rest of the year) schedule. Be sure to look on our schedule page to see what our week looks like. Many of you will notice that we do not have specials on Mondays. This is due to the Music teacher being unavailable in the morning and the specials teachers (like Mr. R and Mrs. Amsel) being made available for Project Based Learning support.
This past Friday we had a new exciting activity: buddy reading with Mrs. Cryan Leary’s class. Many of the kids were confused that we were being paired up with kindergartners. They didn’t realize that this year they are the “big” kids. Mrs. Cryan Leary was kind enough to show me how buddy reading operates at Queen Anne, so this was a new experience for me as well. I believe all of the kiddos enjoyed themselves immensely. It’s pretty neat growing up. Hi all!
I am out sick today, but I wish I wasn't. It's far too soon in the school year to be sick. I guess it's like getting first year teacher sickness: you catch everything that even floats through the school. All the same, I am brand new to QAE and even though I've taught second grade before, moving from the South has been a bizarre cultural shift. People call each other by their first names here. Who knew? In the South we call each other by last name so intensely, that even some of my friends call me "Martin". This has been a change when meeting and talking with parents and other adults, so I apologize now if my first instinct isn't to introduce myself by my first name. The Southern in me isn't used to this more casual atmosphere. If you go to my homework resources I have added new list of resources that I found on Pinterest of Free and Paid for educational websites for your children to use at home, if you so choose. Again Raz Kids is being set-up, as is ST Math. As soon as I know their log-ins (if they don't already know it), I will be giving it to them, so be on the look out. Talk again soon, Lauren Martin |
